Men, Alcohol & Marketing: Seminar Series II

men and alcohol bannerThis is the second of a four-part seminar series co-hosted by SHAAP and IAS (Institute of Alcohol Studies) to discuss issues relating to men and alcohol. At this session, three invited experts will discuss the following questions: 

  • How does alcohol marketing influence men’s behaviour?

  • How does alcohol marketing influence attitudes towards men?

  • How does alcohol marketing affect men in different social and cultural contexts?

These events will provide an opportunity for policy makers, academics, activists, and media representatives to discuss critically topics related to men and alcohol use. The intention is to stimulate thinking, challenge some attitudes and perceptions, and to think about future research and policy priorities. A summary of the discussions from the seminars will be collated into a report, which will be disseminated after the events. This series follows the women and alcohol seminar series held in 2017, the report for which can be found here.

Men, Alcohol & Identity: Seminar Series I

men and alcohol bannerSHAAP and the Institute of Alcohol Studies (IAS) are co-hosting a four part seminar series to discuss issues relating to men and alcohol. Each session will be chaired by an expert in the field who will invite three guest speakers to present their personal responses to three pre-set questions, which are relevant to the topic. These events will provide an opportunity for policy makers, academics, activists, and media representatives to discuss critically topics related to men and alcohol use. The intention is to stimulate thinking, challenge some attitudes and perceptions, and to think about future research and policy priorities. A summary of the discussions from the seminars will be collated into a report, which will be disseminated after the events. EXTRA EVENT: 'Heineken in Africa: A multinational unleashed'

SHAAP and the Scottish Alcohol Research Network (SARN) organise the lunchtime 'Alcohol Occasional' seminars from 12:30-14:00, covering Alcohol and Recovery in 2019. This free programme showcases innovative research on alcohol use and provides the chance for researchers, practitioners, policymakers and members of the public to hear and discuss alcohol-related topics, over lunch at the historic Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.
