Alcohol & LGBT Community
SHAAP is committed to engaging with, and supporting LGBT people on alcohol-related issues, and has carried out various pieces of research into their culture and specific needs.
In 2015, SHAAP published research into the social context of LGBT people's drinking in Scotland. The research was undertaken by researchers from Glasgow Caledonian University and examined how LGBT people experience and understand alcohol consumption in Scotland, as well as analysing their views on stereotypes around LGBT drinking, their perceptions of alcohol advice and services, and barriers which may exist for LGBT groups. Publication was followed up by a meeting in the Scottish Parliament on 15 December 2015.
