What we do

A key aim of SHAAP is to provide an authoritative medical voice on the impact of alcohol on the health of the people of Scotland and to advocate for the implementation of measures to reduce this harm.

The work we do in pursuit of this aim can be divided into three major strands:

1. Reviewing established and emerging evidence and carrying out new research to identify the most effective interventions to reduce alcohol-related health damage.

2. Specifying how effective alcohol strategies and policies can be practically implemented at a Scottish, UK and international level.

3. Advocating the adoption of effective strategies by raising awareness of the extent of harm related harm and communicating SHAAP’s findings to politicians, policy-makers, the media and the general public.
