This short booklet exposes the myth of Scottish drinking culture. There is nothing fixed about Scotland’s drinking culture. The way we buy and consume alcohol today is very different from what it was fifty years ago. Understanding that has changed and can change again will help us take the action we need to reduce the harm caused by alcohol.

Limiting the damage of cheap alcohol: What are the options? October 2009

Briefing paper comparing the effectiveness of minimum pricing versus a ban on the sale of alcohol below the cost of duty + VAT in tackling the problem of cheap alcohol and the harm it causes. The paper demonstrates that a ban on the sale of alcohol below the cost of duty + VAT has no impact on the cost of alcohol. It is therefore entirely ineffective as a means of reducing the harm caused by cheap alcohol.
