SHAAP's manifesto for tackling Scotland's problem with alcohol

Ahead of Scottish Parliamentary elections next week (5th May), SHAAP sets out a five point plan for reducing the harm caused by alcohol in Scotland.
For many, alcohol consumption has become an ordinary part of everyday life. Intensive marketing campaigns, price promotions and easy availability have all worked to cultivate ideas that alcohol is just another grocery, or is indispensible to a good night out. The problem is that alcohol is not an ordinary commodity: it is an addictive, psychoactive drug. To improve health outcomes in Scotland, to improve social well-being, we need to treat alcohol differently.
