Minimum price announced
2 Sep 2010
The Scottish Government today announced they will propose a minimum price of 45p per unit at Stage 2 of the Alcohol Bill currently under consideration in the Scottish Parliament.
Responding to the announcement SHAAP Director, Tom Roberts, said:
"We welcome a minimum price of 45p per unit. At this level, the policy will significantly reduce alcohol related health harm in Scotland. By supporting minimum pricing, the Scottish Parliament can act now to begin to address the damage caused by alcohol.
"Reducing alcohol consumption will save millions of pounds for the National Health Service, police and social services - all of whom struggle to cope with the scale of alcohol-related harm in Scotland."
