NICE guidance confirms efficacy of minimum pricing
1 Jun 2010
Scottish Health Action on Alcohol Problems (SHAAP) has welcomed new guidance due to be published tomorrow by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).
NICE published a draft document in October which argued that addressing price is the most effective way to tackle alcohol-related health damage. The final report re-iterates this advice to government.
SHAAP Project Director, Tom Roberts comments:
“There are now serious moves both north and south of the border to use price as a mechanism to reduce alcohol consumption. Our own Alcohol Bill will be debated in the next two weeks in the Scottish Parliament and it is vital that we maintain the momentum on Scotland’s ambitious plans to limit the damage caused by alcohol. NICE support for minimum pricing is further evidence that we are on the right track.”
