Meeting at Scottish Parliament discusses minimum pricing for alcohol

On 12th November, SHAAP held at meeting at the Scottish Parliament to discuss the case for minimum pricing for alcohol in Scotland. The meeting was co-hosted by Andy Kerr, MSP and Nicol Stephen, MSP.

Speaking at the meeting was Kimmo Herttua from the University of Helsinki whose recent research on the effects of a large reduction in the price of alcohol in Finland found a substantial increase on alcohol-related mortality, particularly amongst people on low incomes. Also speaking at the meeting was Professor Anne Ludbrook from the Aberdeen University who presented an economist’s perspective on the impact of minimum pricing in Scotland.
